My Son is taking an 8th Grade Art Class in which he loves. The first pictured mug is his impression of Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas, which is his favorite. The second picture is from G. Her assignment was to take two animals and combine them into a mythical creature. This is her impression of a Borse Hat. In other words her combined creature is that of a horse and a bat. The third image is a holiday mug by G.
G insisted on Monkey invites from Target but then also wanted a spa party. So how does Mom plan a spa party and tie in the monkey theme and not spend a million dollars: Check it out!
Once the invites were sent, I was on a mission to pull off this Monkey spa party. I went to Justice and found Monkey PJ's for G, then stopped by the dollar store and picked up a 3-pack of glitter and 6 feather boa's for G and her buddies. I borrowed one chocolate fountain from my work, and purchased a bag of pretzel rods, marshmallows, cupcake mix, icing, Nilla wafers in regular and mini size, a bag of flour, and a six cup bag of mozzarella cheese. I also picked up a bag of frozen dinner rolls and a box of instant butterscotch pudding. I made a phone call to my very talented teenage neices and told them to bring curling irons, nail polish, and make up.
The night before I baked funfetti cupcakes and iced with chocolate icing. I reserved funfetti sprinkles for chocolate dipped pretzel rods.
Once cupcakes were iced, I positioned Nilla Wafers to make a monkey face and then iced each one to resemble a face. I got out the Kitchen Aid mixer and made an individual pizza crust for each girl and a big one for Hubby, myself, and neices. I prebaked them.
Guests arrived at 3:30pm and the girls broke out the karaoke machine and began singing away. Then they decided to do presents right away. When everyone got hungry. I put out a jar of pizza sauce, pepperoni, and all the mozzarella cheese they could grab. Since I pre-baked the crust, we only had to stick the pizza's backin the over for about 8 minutes each.
For an elegant punch, I took Black cherry Kool aid and added a bag of frozen fruit. The punch bowl added the elegance factor.
I made up party bags to go by stopping by http://www.shopjustice.com/ They have an accessory area where everything was 3 for $5. and I also had a 40% off coupon. Yay! Bonus. I found monkey shaped soap, and monkey note pads, and cotton candy lip gloss. I found treat bags at the dollar store. I splurged and bought each girl a bath fizzy at www.sweetandsassy.com
My neices fixed everyone's hair, nails, and makeup. We dusted everyone with glitter and in the morning we had "Monkey Bread". To make monkey bread you take a bundt pan, spray it with non-stick cooking spray, add frozen dinner rolls, sprinkle with instant butterscotch pudding mix, a 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 stick of melted butter, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Put in oven and forget about it until morning. The rolls will rise overnight. Cook at 375 for 30 minutes. Sticky, Yummy, Monkey bread.
G Turned 10 on September 24th. To celebrate her birthday we went to http://www.daveandbusters.com/ We had an absolute blast. We all enjoyed the trivia, skee ball, race car driving, air hockey and winning tickets. G got to take home a stuffed pink poodle and Baby M got a pink kitty cat that she sleeps with every night now.
When we got ready to leave, we all had our fortune told by the mechanical gypsy.
Life is a ginormous roller coaster with children aged 13, 9, and 2.
My 13 year old has the most gorgeous smile and has sworn for the last 12 years he would never have to have braces, well one weirdo tooth in the back and several thousands of dollars later. He does indeed have to have braces. My poor baby. As they were putting them on, he had the look of defeat, like why are you letting them hurt me mom... argh, I hate that look.
That is the same look tht the 9 year old Drama Queen had after her kidney surgery last year in July. G is an emotional roller coaster going from giggly to tears 10 times a day for every reason under the moon. She ran into her bestest friend that she has had to endure all of summer without seeing, at the pool on Sunday. She was ecstatic to go down the tube slide with her best buddy, when all of a sudden, another mutual friend arrived and then proceeded to steal the best friends attention away and the double tube would then be occupied by her instead of my Drama Queen. There was a whole lot of pouting and hurt feelings going on.
Meanwhile, my 2 year old prodigy that swears she is 6 years old on most days when you ask her, is involved in heavy conversations about words, spelling, alphabets and kids her real age that don't respond when you say hello. Baby M is very friendly and wants to make friends quickly when she goes to the playground. She often starts out with a hello and proceeds to try and engage the other small child in conversation and when they either don't talk or only babble, Baby M doesn't understand. She asks me, "Mommy, I said hello, why don't they talk, why won't they play?" I have to explain to Baby M, that not everyone is able to talk yet, or that they may be feeling shy.
Baby M is scheduled for extensive Kidney testing on Monday, as she has the same genetic Kidney disorder that the Drama Queen had surgery for last year. They initially scheduled a renal exam, which very quickly got changed to a DMSA scan which she will have full blood work up, physical, and she will be sedated for. I have not discussed any of this with her and hope and plan to take it one step at a time. We shall see.
So while the EMO 13 year old sulks because he can't eat anything, the Drama Queen pouts over outfits, friends, and Barbie's hair having tangles, and the two year old is working on her Levitation Algorithm, or the first flying car... I blog and vent, and try to convince myself that someone may enjoy reading this.
Just a little note to let you all know that G is officially "Good" on the kidneys. She had corrective surgury for Bi-lateral Kidney Reflux this past summer and was still wetting the bed every night. We bought a bedtime alarm and within a month she was completely corrected. No more bed wetting. She named her three scars from her laproscopic surgury, and right now I can't remember their names but the only scar who still shows is the guy in the middle.
Baby M has the same exact condition. I've not been real excited to go back for more testing. I know it needs to be done, but it is such a horrid ordeal... it's one of those things you just want to go away and it doesn't. She goes to the Pediatrician today for her 18month check up. wow, 18months... time flies.
This past weekend we went to the Pumpkin Patch as a family. We had so much fun. G was a little disappointed that the normal location of the pumpkin patch was closed because they could not get the corn to grow, so there was no corn maze. They moved everything to the corner market. They still had their hay ride where you get to pick an apple and yum they were delicious. They called them Pixie Crunch and our own little Pixie thought they were delicious. Poor G got a bee on her apple, and he didn't want to share. Aunt Leigh flicked that bee into next year and then we all ran so he didn't come buzzing back with all of his friends. Baby M dressed up like a Lady Bug and G was a princess. It was so much fun. My mom joined us and I was sooo thrilled that she did. We had soo much fun!
